Dr. Fatima Driouech is an Associate Professor specializing in climate change and climate services, and currently serves as the Scientific Coordinator of the Climate Modelling and Assessments Project at the International Water Research Institute of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). She holds a PhD in Sciences of the Universe, Environment, and Land Surfaces from the Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, as well as an engineering degree from the French National School of Meteorology.
Prior to joining academia, Dr. Driouech held several leadership positions within the Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology, including Head of the National Meteorological Research Centre and subsequently Director of the National Climate Centre.
She is currently Co-Chair of the World Meteorological Organization’s Standing Committee on Climate Services. She has also contributed extensively to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) as a member of the Scientific Steering Group on Earth System Modelling and Observations. From 2021 to 2025, she served as Co-Coordinator of the Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) network and continues to contribute as a member of its Steering Committee.
Dr. Driouech is actively involved in the IPCC Seventh Assessment Cycle (AR7) as a Review Editor for Working Group I. She previously served as Vice-Chair of IPCC Working Group I from 2015 to 2023, was a Lead Author of the Fifth Assessment Report, and a Review Editor for two chapters of the Sixth Assessment Report.
She also serves as an Associate Editor of the journal Earth System and Environment (ESEV). Her research focuses on climate and climate change assessments, climate modelling and downscaling, and the development of climate services.
